My
psychotherapeutic approach
I work in a relational way, meaning that I believe that the therapeutic relationship is the vehicle and container within which healing and positive change can happen.
I am fully there with you on your journey, supporting you, bringing curiosity about patterns and narratives that might reveal themselves, and challenging these when appropriate. My approach is integrative, and I draw on a range of theoretical frameworks including psychodynamic theory, neuroscience, and attachment.
I am trauma-informed, and have also trained in EMDR, an evidence based intervention recommended by the NICE guidelines for post-traumatic stress disorder, that can also be effective in treating specific phobias and anxieties. As well as talking, I may introduce more creative ways of working where appropriate, as well as more body-based approaches to supporting regulation such as mindfulness and visualisation.
I have been working with children, young people, families and adults since 2010, and have worked in a diverse range of settings including schools, charities, a hospice-based bereavement service, an NHS funded Mental Health Support Team, and private practice.
Increasingly, I find myself working with mothers, often supporting them in the parallel process of their journey through perimenopause and menopause alongside that of their children through the trials of adolescence. I am particularly interested in these thresholds and rites of passage, initiations from one phase of life into another, and the rich portals for transformation that they offer.
My other special areas of interest are trauma, belonging and identity, and I have gained particular experience in using EMDR with young people and adults who have experienced sexual assault. I continue to enjoy working with people from a wide range of backgrounds and life experience.
"I wish I could show you when you are lonely or in darkness the astonishing light of your own being."
